Spiritual Meaning of Letter B

Letter B represents a house in ancient time

The history of letter B begins as a picture of a house in the Egyptian hieroglyph Pr (𓉐). It was called “Beth” in Phoenician, which also means “house”.

To the ancients, a house wasn’t just wood; it was the womb, the birthplace, or the body. It was where the Spirit (A) found a home (B), where our soul began to dwell in physical form.

This is why we have:

  • Beth, meaning “house” in the Bible
  • Bethlehem = Beth + Lehem (Bread), meaning House of Bread
  • Bethel = Beth + El (God), meaning House of God

Whenever you read the Bible and you see the word “church”, “earth”, or “temple”, it symbolically represents the House of our Soul, which is the Body.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Beth is the beginning of duality arising from the Unity of Creation. This is why Beth starts with B (numerological value 2) while Soul starts with S (numerological value 1). Soul (1) must always come first. Without the soul, our body is just a corpse.

The letter B is feminine by nature because it represents the archetype of the Divine Mother, the Builder, and the Bridge. B means bosom, breast, and buttock, which are women’s most powerful weapons.

When you rotate the shape of our modern letter B, you can also see these sensitive parts of the women’s body. B means Bang, Blow, Ball, and Breed, which all contain sensual connotations within them.

When the Greeks adopted the Phoenician “Beth,” they renamed it “Beta”. Numerologically, alpha corresponds to 1 and beta to 2; the masculine aligns with 1 and the feminine with 2. When joined, they form alpha-beta, or the alphabet, symbolizing the union of the masculine and feminine.

In Kabbalah, the letter Beth (ב) is profoundly sacred because it’s the first letter of the Torah — “Bereshit” (“In the beginning”). It represents the divine feminine who receives the seed of “A” and gives birth to creation.

Therefore, the spiritual principle of the letter B is Birthing, Begetting, Being, and Becoming. In the Quran (2:117), “When God decrees a matter, He says to it ‘Be’, and it is”.

According to Shirley Blackwell Lawrence, the author of The Big Book of Numerology, the letter B (or Beth) means mouth. How does the mouth fit into everything we’ve discussed so far?

You probably have heard the expression: “women have two mouths, while men have two heads”. The mouths here represent the lips of the women’s vagina. Women are the Bridge because only they can navigate unborn souls from the other worlds to give Birth to our Babies in this physical world.

When you enter a woman’s body, you enter another world. The two curves of the letter B symbolize the lower world (earth, body, emotion) and the upper world (heaven, spirit, mind), both anchored by the vertical line, the axis of consciousness.

Therefore, the lesson of the letter B is to Balance between duality. Its numerological value is 2, which is why B is often used to describe two things, such as “bilingual”, “binary”, or “both.”

The letter B has a nurturing and maternal energy, but it doesn’t always show itself, because the shape of B is enclosed. If someone has the letter B as the first letter of their first name, they have emotional depth, sensitivity, and intuition, but they usually keep these qualities private.

Meaning of Letter B in Your Name

In numerology, if the first letter of your first name starts with B, you’re Brave, Bold, Brilliant, and Bright. Since B is feminine, you’re also sensitive, modest, and reserved in character.

While you love to collect, manage, and build things, you can feel “boxed up” by your own limitations. B people are very good at memorizing things, as B is an enclosed letter. You’re also determined, loyal, and organized.

B people need security to establish a strong foothold in life. Your lesson is to balance the spiritual world and the material world, because harmony within yourself can manifest as harmony in your environment.
